34/40 (or so)

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

TIme is flying – it’s hard to believe! Joelle is now at week 34 of her pregnancy (as of today); sure seems like just yesterday we found out about it! Things are coming along – we have week 4 of our childbirth class tonight, last weekend we took our hospital tour,  and all around, we’re just getting the house ready for the new arrival – this includes trying to get Molly to see as many children as she can to get used to them, of course.

Pictures tell the story, as usual – click on the images for larger ones.

  • Last week we had a (final, hopefully) ultrasound. As the baby’s gotten bigger, the ultrasound machine can no longer pick up the entire length of her in one photo, but we did get two great shots of her face.

  • We got a fantastic gift of a new rocker/glider for the nursery last week – of course, Joelle needed to try it out!

  • Hitting the 34-week milestone seemed a good time for a belly-shot photo, so took a couple this morning.

Construction of a Crib

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

As I mentioned previously, we’ve started the process of getting our nursery together. Last week, the dressers and crib got delivered. While the dressers were pre-assembled, the crib required assembly. As always, the idea of leaving the big box just sitting there didn’t match our mental makeup, so we tackled the job over this weekend – turns out, this was one of the easier furniture construction jobs to do – the parts and steps made perfect sense (thankfully, given how critical it is to have the crib constructed well). Moving all of the carboard pieces into the recycling bin was actually a harder task!

Having the crib put together is yet another of the steps that caused us to realize how soon the baby will be born – Joelle is now just over 30 weeks (obligatory belly shot on the right), leaving (estimated) only 10 weeks left to go. Unbelievable how fast time is flying!

(Note: I am trying yet a different format for posting pictures – so click on any of the images on the right to see pictures in full detail).

Growing, Week by Week

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Little Hobey continues to keep growing every week, and this causes Joelle to keep looking more and more pregnant every day – her “pregnancy bump” is quite cute these days! Our parents have been begging us to post more pictures, so here’s a running timeline of her recent growth – all weeks rounded down:

Yes We Carve! (i.e. Shabbat-O-Ween 2008)

Monday, October 27th, 2008

As Halloween approaches this year (conveniently on Shabbat, so we’ll be home having dinner when all the kids come a knockin’ on the door), I’ve been sick for a few days. On Sunday however, for a couple of hours at least (downturn again today, unfortunately), I started feeling a little better, so we took a quick jaunt out to the Craven Farm in Everett to do some pumpkin picking and drink some cider (however, no cider donuts to be found – damn those things were good in Michigan!)

Pictures (as always, click on the pictures for larger versions)

Is that a pumpkin in your stomach, or what you’ll look like come early next year?

Thankfully, the ultrasound shows Little Hobey to be a person, not a pumpkin!

Tonight, we decided to get a head start on carving – as it’s election season, we’re showing our support via the patterns up at yeswecarve.com/

(and yes, for Friday night, we’ll use Shabbat candles and make the pumpkins our candlesticks…)

15 down, 25 to go (estimated, of course!)

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Recently, Joelle and I have begun to think that for our friends and relatives, getting pregnant (and having children) is a bit contagious – it must be something in the water as we all approach or hit the magic age of 30. This past week, in fact, we’ve had dinner with 3 different friends who are either expecting imminently and/or have a one-year old. It’s pretty amazing to watch how people’s lives change overnight.

And in fact – we’re going through it too! Joelle is around 15 weeks pregnant, and we couldn’t be more excited :) We’re going to be parents come mid-April 2009, or so the estimated due date tells us :) – It’s been really hard for her to stop me from blogging until now – I’ve had to resign myself to reading lots of books on the subject :)

So far, thankfully, everything looks healthy and good, and we’ve already started to bond with Little Hobey (as Joelle said – it’s going to be an Averbuch for the rest of it’s life, so for now, it’s a Hoberman!), though from what we read in the various pregnancy books – he/she can’t quite hear yet, and it’s a bit too early for us to feel any movements – that should be coming in the next few weeks.  But there’s something magical seeing the ultrasound pictures (which we’ve been lucky enough to have seen twice now – the pics below are from 12 weeks) – I just want to hug and take care of the little person – especially how cute it is in the picture below with the feet up in the air.
