Cribbing it Up

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

While our goal is to get Aviva to sleep in the co-sleeper in our bedroom, we are also trying to put her to nap in the crib in the nursery as well – get her used to sleeping in both, if you will. Of course, so far, much of her sleeping is in our arms or some other form of hold, but she has made use of both. Often, she awakes from a nap quite fussy/hungry, but occasionally, as she awakes, she has a really cute quiet-alert time period. We usually (it’s funny to say “usually” when it has just been two weeks) go and pick her up right away, so we can interact with her when she’s in this state, but this afternoon, we decided to see what she would do when left on her own. She seems quite interested in figuring out her limbs, if you ask me. Note: it’s quiet for the first few seconds, but then one of Aviva’s favorite CDs comes on in the background – it’s a CD of Jazz/Swing arrangements of famous nursery rhymes.

As usual, if you are reading this in an RSS reader, you may need to visit the original post to see the video.

34/40 (or so)

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

TIme is flying – it’s hard to believe! Joelle is now at week 34 of her pregnancy (as of today); sure seems like just yesterday we found out about it! Things are coming along – we have week 4 of our childbirth class tonight, last weekend we took our hospital tour,  and all around, we’re just getting the house ready for the new arrival – this includes trying to get Molly to see as many children as she can to get used to them, of course.

Pictures tell the story, as usual – click on the images for larger ones.

  • Last week we had a (final, hopefully) ultrasound. As the baby’s gotten bigger, the ultrasound machine can no longer pick up the entire length of her in one photo, but we did get two great shots of her face.

  • We got a fantastic gift of a new rocker/glider for the nursery last week – of course, Joelle needed to try it out!

  • Hitting the 34-week milestone seemed a good time for a belly-shot photo, so took a couple this morning.

Painted

Friday, January 9th, 2009

During the week before New Years, I had the week off of work. Our goal was to spend time organizing the house – unpacking boxes we never unpacked when we moved in, moving my office to the basement downstairs (to clear out the room it was in for a nursery), and painting the nursery.

Between Joelle and I, we got everything done, but I made sure to schedule painting for a day when Joelle was at work – even though we were using Low-VOC (i.e. low toxin) paints from Benjamin Moore. So Clodagh (thanks again!) came on over, and painting her and I did. Turns out, this paint (we used Aura paint in Acadia Green for the nursery, and Aura in Queen’s Wreath for the bathroom), is amazing. One coat, no primer, even over our brick red bathroom; no paint even dripped off of the brush while painting – it was pretty darn thick. Highly, highly recommended, especially for the time savings, but also for the cost savings due to not needing the primer or second coat.

Pictures, of course, tell the story:
